For better or for worse, a lot of people on the internet think Tide Pods look delicious. I personally love to touch them too 😉

So I was thrilled to see that someone appears to have successfully made edible Tide Pods in sushi form!

To be clear, this isn’t the first time the topic of edible Pods has been broached online. There’s been a hypothetical recipe floating around for a few days now. But that one — let’s be honest — seems pretty flavorless, and this new one looks a little more appetizing. It even appears to have retained that iconic Tide Pod squish.

Enjoy your weekend with a delicious start!!! Yours, Fran

Do your own Rum at home!

Bramsrum is a surprising innovation of the traditional spirits bottle. The BRUM bottle speeds up the aging process of the alcohol considerably and moves it from the distillers cellars to your living room.

Distillates, such as rum and whiskey, grow in quality by prolonged aging in oak casks. During this process, the wood gives off its flavor and the most volatile compounds evaporate through the wood, called: ‘The Angels’ Share’. It is the evaporation of this “angels’ share” which makes the beverage become softer and rounder. By replacing part of the bottle with a section of oak the BRUM bottle combines the best of both worlds: the benefits of a bottle and the aging qualities of a barrel.

Another example of the DIY trend. Indeed, we can do it ourselves! Yours, Fran

The partnership between By Kilian fragrances and Fleur Du Mal lingerie gets us to a glamorous level with their new line of scented lingerie. Respective brand founders Kilian Hennessy and Jennifer Zuccarini have joined forces ahead of the holiday season to create a range of undergarments, robes, night sets, and even lace cuffs ($68 to $595), all infused with one of Kilian’s most-loved fragrances.

Fleur Du Mal

“There’s something intriguing and intimate about fragrance and lingerie that I’ve always wanted to explore,” Zuccarini says. “With this collection, we’ve been able to add an element of sensuality that enhances the experience of intimacy.”

So, what makes these pieces different from simply misting your panties with your favorite fragrance?  The lace of each item is actually infused with fragrance enclosed in gel micro-capsules, which are designed to last anywhere from 4 to 5 washes.

The scent in question? Kilian’s Love, Don’t Be Shy ($260; net-a-porter.com), which is a sweet, sensual mix of honeysuckle, caramelized sugar, jasmine, bergamot, and vanilla that plays well with the chemistry of your skin.

I wish you a lovely rest of the week! Yours, Fran

You probably know all about the discussions about a new world where medicinal Cannabis might be legal, or at least permitted, so it can be processed in food for medicinal purposes…

But it is award winning Madame Munchie who is really creating a new category of edibles. These products not only use local North California’s organic, but also medicinal and gluten-free ingredients.

Their focus is on providing wellness, relief and delicious smoke alternatives for their patients. This is a very interesting development, as the only edible alternative is the space cake so far…

I personally love the looks of the macarons! So cool! Yours, Fran

I lately noticed a lot of dairy product claims on the beauty shelfs. Things you would not expect in your facial cream!

For instance, Tony Moly’s Wonder Cheese firming cream contains extracts from Gruyere & milk protein.

The Face Shop has launcheed a “Fresh Milk” cream.

Or how would you like oats on your skin? South Korean beauty care company Missha dared to do it!

Can you actually imagine a room candle that promises the following aromatherapy effects?

  • anti migraine
  • happiness
  • relax
  • skin hydration
  • anti cellulite

Relaxbynelly seems to be convinced about their product offerings.

Fantastic claims 😉 Just to get that idea is quite a challenge!

Redesigning plants: Food future

blog, Central Saint Martins, climate change, design, food, fragrance, Franziska Josteit, genetically modified, In-Imitable, Mariah Wright, perfume, Redesigning, scent, trend, WGSN

New thoughts around plant development must be explored to feed the surging population and survive climate change. Although Wright’s project is speculative and set far enough in the future to encourage open discussion, the ideas within it explore very present-day hopes and fears.

Triticum - Carnivorous wheat

Conceptual designers are currently looking ahead to what we will be growing and eating decades in the future – and it’s likely to be much more high-tech. Central Saint Martins graduate Mariah Wright has envisaged a scenario, set in the mid 21st century, when common plant breeds are genetically modified to take on extra functions: Here are some examples:

Toxicity-sensing rice, set to emerge in China in 2040, will be modified with colour-expressing genes that show when there is soil contamination nearby: leaves will gradate from lime green to hot red and pink when toxicity is present.

Oryza saliva - toxicity-sensing rice

Breadfruit, a tropical plant that doesn’t currently produce latex and isn’t able to grow in England’s current climate, will be able to do both these things in 2060s England. Creating a national industry for rubber production, the plant will be designed to end the country’s dependence on South American imports.

California in 2050, meanwhile, will modify strawberry plants to grow their own protective packaging – cutting down on the chance of damage during transit.

Fragaria Ananassa - strawberry packaging

Some of the ideas are appealing, some of them are quite terrifying, but none of them are impossible. Genetic modification holds the promise of delivering great innovations on a global level, but it is hugely controversial.

“Many scientists point to the urgency of developing plants and animals that can feed the surging human population and survive the effects of climate change,” explains Wright. “Now they are asking, when, not if, genetically modified foods will become normalised.”

There are definitely strange new formats popping up, such as the hair conditioning cocktail from ORS. The range is called Shealicious and is made for curly hair.

Being inspired by yoghurts, the company claims that you can mix your fresh hair cocktail yourself. This could create more engagement and more transparency.

An easy DIY Cocktail for healthy hair.
