Scent Constellation, a new album created by composer Daniel Sonabend, is being played at an installation at Le Grand Musée du Parfum in Paris.

A musical album that captures the ‘sounds’ of fragrance is due to launch on 1 June.

The Scent Constellation album will feature five musical fragrance compositions: Eau de Cologne, Oriental, Fougère, Floral and Chypre.

Created by Jason Bruges Studio, the installation is designed to portray the perfume creation process and scent pyramid through sound.

The sounds play for as long as each fragrance note lasts with a fast-evaporating top note represented by a short sound, and a lingering base note playing for longer.

Sonabend, based in London, specialises in creating music for scent and was commissioned to create Cartier’s first Unidentified Scent Object – Le Nudge Parfumé (The Perfumed Cloud).

The Cure is a brand-new restaurant in the 9th arrondissement of Paris offering you to eat in accordance with your mood and to correct it if need be. Food can play a major role on your state of mind!

Humeurs
Whether you feel depressed or whacked or if you only feel like boosting your memory, Stéphanie, the place’s owner has a menu for you.

If you feel tired: wheat, chickpea, carrots, onions, zucchinis, peppers, spinach, cashew nuts, hemp seeds, Alfredo sauce served with a chestnut cake. If you feel annoyed: pearled barley, whole wheat, chorizo, garlic, tomatoes and lemon, served with a chocolate, hazelnut and almond cookie.

According to the owner, the effect will not necessarily be immediate, but a week of mood-menu and you will be more serene.

The mood topic is seen everywhere at the moment – good timing to come up with a Restaurant! Yours,  Fran

Finally – I made it to the Museum of Perfumery! Paris is always worth a trip, but this time it was a perfume weekend! After a trip to the Osmotheque in Versailles, I went to the museum. Such a cool experience – a MUST for perfume-lovers!

Here are some impressions:

A vivid demonstration of how fragrance enters our brain.

How does the scent of a croissant actually get in a perfume? Headspace Analysis is the answer!

How was fragrance used back in the days? Personal stories tell the background.

Citronellol and many other raw materials were exhibited.
Great installation with raw materials and audio explanations!

Me whilst sniffing!
A wonderful scent-organ with classical music and light effects!

…and once more because it was so beautiful!

Childhood memories could be awakened with these fragrance flowers!

Does the Flacon not remind of “Le Classique” by Jean-Paul Gaultier?

I hope you got a little insight! Yours, Fran

Personalization is the big trend and Guerlain wants to take part as well! Their ‘parfumeur boutique’ already exists in Paris on rue Saint Honoré, but is now to open in more countries.

Tailor-made products: How does it work?

The new area offers 110 Guerlain fragrances and a full immersion into the heart of the brand’s creativity. Basically the accords are classified into four main olfactory families, allowing customers to take advantage of a digital fragrance consultation to identify their personal olfactory profile and, thanks to a powerful algorithm, find their very own “signature fragrance”.

After choosing their fragrance, customers are invited to the personalization atelier, where they can finalize their purchase by selecting every detail to make the fragrance their own – bottle shape and colour, engraved message in any language, plus a choice of ribbons and bows to embellish the bottles. Plus the bottles can be refilled.

Guerlain’s main goal is to offer a unique experience revolving around completely tailor-made products & services.

I’ve lately been to the Paris shop and indeed, its a pretty concept! Yours, Fran

This September 2016, a new, independent perfume house has opened in Paris called Parle Moi de Parfum, a name which is to be understood to function as a motto: to talk about perfume – and nothing else. They debut with a catalogue of eight perfumes.

The brand was created by Benjamin and Romain Almairac, the two sons of renowned perfumer Michel Almairac. The boutique was designed by Elisabeth Almairac. It is a family affair with roots in the perfumery tradition of Grasse – the Robertet company in particular – and a flagship store in Paris.

A perfumery lab is part of the interior decor with a junior perfumer present at all time. A wall with dozens of ingredients is like a customer-oriented perfumer organ created with a didactic purpose in mind. You will be able to smell isolated ingredients to understand better how they are blended within a composition.

Have a lovely week! Yours, Fran

I got this book as a present and read it with pleasure! Actually, I didnt want to finish it and just put it back in the bookshelve!

The book is a remarkable novel about secrets, desire, memory, passion, and possibility.

Newlywed Grace Monroe doesn’t fit anyone’s expectations of a successful 1950s London socialite, least of all her own. When she receives an unexpected inheritance from a complete stranger, Madame Eva d’Orsey, Grace is drawn to uncover the identity of her mysterious benefactor.

Weaving through the decades, from 1920s New York to Monte Carlo, Paris, and London, the story Grace uncovers is that of an extraordinary women who inspired one of Paris’s greatest perfumers. Immortalized in three evocative perfumes, Eva d’Orsey’s history will transform Grace’s life forever, forcing her to choose between the woman she is expected to be and the person she really is.

The Perfume Collector explores the complex and obsessive love between muse and artist, and the tremendous power of memory and scent.

A scent of a woman

After launching Miller Harris 15 years ago, perfumer Lyn Harris has followed her gorgeous nose to create bespoke fragrances in handblown bottles for a tailor-made sensory experience in London.

“It was nice to start with a clean piece of paper, to think about where and who I am. I needed to be able to stop and think. It’s so easy to get absorbed in the non-stop engine of something” Lyn said.

Surrounded by endless teak, polished brass and smoked glass, after a two-year creative journey Lyn Harris has finally opened the doors of her new project: Perfumer H. On the corner of Crawford Street in Marylebone, Harris’ new laboratory and store has been designed by architectural designers Retrouvius. It’s here that customers will be able to exclusively experience, create and ultimately walk away with Harris’s deliciously British new scents.

Glass bottles and candleholders have been handblown by Michael Ruh in Dulwich

Perfumer H. plans to release new collections twice a year. The initial group includes five fragrances: Cologne, Rose, Velvet, Leather and Heliotrope. The Seasonal Editions will be complimented with a portfolio of Laboratory Editions, which customers can buy – even purchasing the formula, should they really fall in love with it. There are also five home fragrance candles. As ever, Harris will also be working with customers to create their own bespoke fragrances (priced from £15,000).

Its great to see that perfume creation does not always have to come from Paris!!! Yours, Fran
