I got this book as a present and read it with pleasure! Actually, I didnt want to finish it and just put it back in the bookshelve!

The book is a remarkable novel about secrets, desire, memory, passion, and possibility.

Newlywed Grace Monroe doesn’t fit anyone’s expectations of a successful 1950s London socialite, least of all her own. When she receives an unexpected inheritance from a complete stranger, Madame Eva d’Orsey, Grace is drawn to uncover the identity of her mysterious benefactor.

Weaving through the decades, from 1920s New York to Monte Carlo, Paris, and London, the story Grace uncovers is that of an extraordinary women who inspired one of Paris’s greatest perfumers. Immortalized in three evocative perfumes, Eva d’Orsey’s history will transform Grace’s life forever, forcing her to choose between the woman she is expected to be and the person she really is.

The Perfume Collector explores the complex and obsessive love between muse and artist, and the tremendous power of memory and scent.

New York – Interior design company Haus has launched a new range of home candles using moodboards to capture the essence of each scent.

Knowing the Pinterest generation, each of the 10 candles of the collection has been explained through a playful, visually inspiring moodboard, photographed by Sully Sullivan.

The Club Haus Candle, for instance, a sandalwood, amber and cardamom creation, is represented by a well-worn collection of boys’ toys, arrows, home-made catapults and old trophies of victories past.

In other words, the moodboards were created to help customers identify which scent best suits their personality.

Very different concept to catch new customers. Worthwile to talk about for sure! Yours, Fran

The zero-waste vibe continues… and even KFC plans to introduce the “Scoff-ee Cup”, an edible coffee cup that smells like grass and tastes like chocolate.

KFC

The product is still in the trial phase and will only be available in the UK. According to a KFC press release, the cup “has been made from a unique biscuit, wrapped in sugar paper, and lined with an indulgent layer of heat-resistant white chocolate.” As you drink the coffee in the cup, the white chocolate lining will slowly begin to melt.

But it doesn’t end there — “Scoff-ee Cups” are not only edible, they’re also… aromatic! KFC partnered with The Robin Collective, an experimental food company, to infuse the cups with “coconut sun cream, freshly cut grass and wild flowers” scents. Why? Well, the idea behind this is that these scents “evoke the positive memories we associate with warm weather, sunshine and summer holidays.” Sounds … delicious?

Dominique Ansel, the famous bakery chef from NYC, also released The Cookie Shot — a chocolate-chip vessel for cold milk — which got me very excited because it’s like all of my childhood dreams come true!

This video shows you how to do it yourself:

Sunny Sunday!!! Yours, Fran

Just a quick note: there is this FOOD CONFERENCE on FEBRUARY 6, 2015 in NEW YORK CITY

BeetCukeSpread

With food officially a cultural obsession, the time seems ripe for Bitten, a new one-day conference on February 6th in NYC dedicated entirely to food innovation. With speakers from recognizable names like Exo, Smorgasburg, and The Infatuation, the event will touch on a range of areas, from sustainability to technology to philanthropy. But what makes Bitten different is its inclusive mantra, which casts a net wider than the professional food world to draw in a diverse crowd of food-loving influencers from all over. So if you love food, networking, and doing good (100% of profits go to Blue Marble Dreams), consider penciling it in.

RootVegPortrait083

On the Bitten website it says the following: “We all eat, but recently our relationship with food has become more complicated than ever before — often for the better, some times for the worse. In addition to all the questions we have about what is good for us and our planet and concerns in our ability to feed the growing population, we should remember that food is also tremendously fun. It’s a form of art and a space that’s innovating faster, and with more impact, than any other. That’s where bitten comes in…”

mushroomBon Appetit everyone 😉 and enjoy your weekend!

Yours, Fran

Dear readers,

if you didn’t get the chance to go to NYC for the great scent exhibition The Art of Scent 1889 – 2012, held at New York Museum of Arts and Design between November 2012 and February 2013 – you have now the opportunity to see the next version in Madrid, Spain.

Art of Scent 2

The Art of Scent at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid presents 8 fragrances until the 4th February 2015. Each scent is presented as a unique piece of art, rooted in its respective cultural history and described in art – historical terms.

Art of Scent

Obviously the art exhibition presented a huge challenge for the designer Cano Estudio, who had to showcase the scents in isolation, without decoration, containers or packaging. The solution is a series of “bubbles” around the room, each of which contains a different scent and allows the visitor to experience this.

Art of Scent 3

– Romanticism. Jicky by Aimé Guerlain for Guerlain.
– Modernism. Chanel Nº5 by Enest Beaux for Chanel.
– Surrealism. Angel by Olivier Cresp for Thierry Mugler.
– Neo-Romanticism. Prada Amber by Carlos Benaïm, Max Gavarry & Clément Gavarri for Prada.
– Photorealism. Eau de Lierre by Fabrice Pellegrin for Diptyque.
– Contemporary Figurative. J’Adore l’Absolu by François Demachy for Dior.
– Neoclassicism. Acqua Universalis by Francis Kurkdjian for Maison Francis Kurkdjian.
– 20th Century Retro. Aura by Emilio Valeros for Loewe.

Thanks Chandler Burr for making this possible again!!!
