Hugsy is part of a collaboration between Kickstarter, the Dutch Design Foundation and several Dutch Design projects. This project is now on Kickstarter and was showcased during the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven.

In short, this is how the Hugsy works:

how it works

So when the baby is falling asleep without having the mom close, it can still hear her heartbeat and smell her unique scent.

Here is a nice video to get the full story!

It‘s obviously just a replacement for real physical contact, but a good start!

FeelReal is THE new gadget for a cinema-feeling at home. Basicially its a helmet (looking totally unsocial at home), with which you can play games, but more real than ever before.

The startup company has created a virtual reality mask and helmet that lets you smell virtual environments. The company claims its devices stimulate both the olfactory (smell) and tactile (touch) senses, thereby immersing you in virtual water mist or wind or a battlefield.

The device includes an odor generator that takes seven removable “smell cartridges,” which vaporize a mixture of perfumes to create an appropriate scent for the game you’re playing or the movie you’re watching.

I’m not allowing this device at home *smile* it’s such a playboy device! Yours, Fran

ODO, a San Francisco-based apparel company, has developed a line of self-cleaning T-shirts and denim jeans that “never stink or stain”.

The ODO line, which was unveiled through a Kickstarter campaign, features denim jeans that come in a range of styles and a white cotton T-shirt.

ODO self-cleaning clothes

The garments have two self-cleaning properties: Silver fibres woven into the cotton fabric help combat odours, and a coating on the surface of the fabric helps repel liquid.

There are multiple other companies at the moment in that field: Fantini of Denmark, Vardama’s Equa-Tek line, Mister French, and The Threadsmiths. ODO said its clothing is different because it is infused with silver fibres that destroy smelly bacteria.

New generations of clothing popping up everywhere, but im wondering whether these are good for sensitive skin… well, let’s see how popular they become! Yours, Fran

I recently found out about SensorWake, a Kickstarter-funded company that invented a gentle way of waking you up.

What motivates you to get up in the morning? Whether its a hot cup of coffee or a croissant, you don’t have to wake up to a sudden scream of an alarm clock, not anymore! There is a new alarm clock that claims to be able to arouse you from your sleep by simply wafting invigorating scents around your bedroom.

Like regular alarm clocks, you can set the timer of the clock for the time you would want to get up in the morning. With scents including coffee, candy, chocolate and croissants, the scent you have selected will be emitted once the chosen time has come. Within two minutes of reaching the time, you should be fully aroused with the scent.

In a test that was carried out to prove the functionality of the SensorWake, 100 people were awaken in less than 2 minutes 99% of the time. To ensure that you don’t doze away while you should be heading to an important meeting, there is also an audio alarm that will go off once three minutes have passed.

A single capsule of a scent cartridge is said to be able to wake you up 60 times. Available scents are seaside, ginger, hot croissant, and even money. The scent cartridges are fragranced by the Swiss fragrance manufacturer Givaudan.

Great innovations are happening here!!! Yours, Fran
